Dining in Chester

Chester, Grosvenor Hotel

It is an unfortunate fact of life that too few of us associate Chester with dining; if there were true justice in the world then the two words would rarely be seen apart! Chester dining offers the gamut of modern and traditional cuisine, from Brazilian through Thai to Italian and Spanish.

Certainly one of the best aspects of eating out in Chester is the fact you can go for a good, traditional British pub meal that actually retains some of the taste that this kind of cuisine used to be famous for. Slightly outside of Chester, but still considered close enough to be voted as Chester’s Best Pub in the Chester Food and Drink Awards 2011 is the Ring O’ Bells, which combines incredible cuisine with a mouth-watering selection of wines and beers. This is an absolute must. Another refreshing thing about Chester is that it’s actually possible to find some independent menus that aren’t part of the ubiquitous and frankly depressing monopoly of pub chains, which in my experience is always a plus!

Perhaps the most tantalising prospect about sampling Chester’s culinary delights however is the prospect of the Michelin-starred Simon Radley restaurant (also proud to have acquired 4 AA Rosettes – no inconsiderable feat!), located at the Chester Grosvenor. Yes, it will set you back a decent amount, but restaurants of this calibre are in no way common and the opportunity to relish the delectable culinary delights should not be passed up.

And this is without considering the broader range of extremely high-quality restaurants, such as the commendable Indian Brasserie (winner of the ‘Best Curry’ accolade at the aforementioned awards), if you fancy something a little more exotic. There’s even a quality South African restaurant (Jabula)!

Overall, the experience of dining in Chester is essential; if you’re in the area it’s inexcusable to miss out, and it’s even worth travelling from afar just to taste the very best Chester has to offer – you won’t be disappointed!
